Dutch Profiles is a ‘digital exhibition’ consisting of short documentaries that present a diverse but coherent survey of Dutch fashion, design, and architecture. From 2009 till early 2013, a total of 96 profiles were produced by Submarine for the DutchDFA programme, with an editorial board consisting of Jose Teunissen, Gert Staal, Huib Haye van der Werf and Christine de Baan.
The series premiered at the opening day of Designyatra, 4 September 2009. Portraits by, among others, MVRDV, 2012 Architects, Jurgen Bey, Claudy Jongstra, Gerard Unger, Paul Mijksenaar, Philips, Carver, Marlies Dekkers, Alexander van Slobbe and G-Star started the series.
During the four years of the DutchDFA programme, the videos were screened at over 42 exhibitions, conferences, and other events in more than 20 different countries.
The collection is available online at www.dutchprofiles.com, YouTube, Vimeo and the Chinese video sharing platform Tudou (with Chinese subtitles). In 2013, Dutch Profiles with German subtitles will appear on LabKulturTV. Now that the DutchDFA programme has ended, the video series has become part of the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, which publishes it on ARTtube.
About the music:
Given the incredible variety of personalities, themes and techniques that the Dutch design industry has generated in the last decades, we decided that every DDFA profie would deserve its unique characterization.
We therefore composed and produced music that would portait every individual artist, his work and his creative intention. This approach resulted into a music anthology of 74 original music works.
In 2014 we plan to release an album with a selection of the best music works.
